The thesis is exemplified by Java.
The antithesis is exemplified by JavaScript.
(It doesn't quite fit, because they're not on the Pareto frontier. But still...)

Date: 2014-10-31 09:21 pm (UTC)The thing is that (at least as I see it) Java is extremely rigid, my way or the highway style. This might be good for very large projects, but it's not exactly delightful to work with. JS, on the other hand, will let you shoot your foot off if you so desire, but the resulting entropy makes programming anything beyond a certain size a serious hassle. But which choice the world picks to reconcile and go beyond the chaos-order dichotomy here is anyone's guess.
(I think the "easy to start, anarchic" side has better languages than JS, but they're not quite as wild as JS can be.)
