Here's a really short post, all things considered, of what has happened lately, since I'm still busy.
First, I got the paperwork done. Then I got accepted into the university, so I had to find some place to live (since a four hour commute each way is... not exactly tenable :) ).
But since I'm not living nearby, I had to find some relatives by whom I could stay while looking. But these were either planning on having some time on their own or handling vacation-related things, so we had to move from one relative in the capital to another, so that didn't really give a feeling of stability.
And in the middle of this, the person who drove me to the capital went on vacation, too; I had planned on going with him, but given all the other stuff that was going on, and past problems with vacations, I decided to be risk averse and didn't follow him. So I had a little while to recover, doing not much. (While he was having his vacation, I returned to where I usually live so that I could also have some time off.)
After that, we returned (at about Aug 1) and more looking-around-at-places ensued, all while the deadline was creeping closer. Again, I couldn't stay over there for longer than the 5th, so I had to get something done by then. And we managed to do so, barely.
In the meantime, lightning decided I was not having enough fun, and so struck home (including my two computers) while I was away. And I was using a mail client to get all my property searching related mails. Fortunately the provider had webmail, but that was one more thing to add to the mix.
So the 6th, I got back here to find out what had happened to the computers. Both were dead[1], but the server had an external 12V PSU, so hacking one together using an old ATX PSU (and nails and a short between PS-OK and COMMON) fixed that. I ordered a PSU for the desktop too (next-day delivery at pick-up point), replaced the blown PSU and the computer still wouldn't start. So when I get over there I'm going to order a new motherboard. (The disks work, so no data loss, fortunately)
... and in between this I was also fixing some other people's computers (three laptops and a desktop: laptops needed password recovery, desktop would BSOD on boot). At least I got paid for that!
So yes. Busy busy. More later! Perhaps I'll show some pictures of the hacked-together PSU.

[1] There's a corollary here to the "there are two kinds of people, those who have lost data and those who will lose data", something like "those who have lost computers to surges and those who take precaution".
