Phew, the relatives and their younglings have left. I just have to say, they (both the relatives and the younglings) have a more, well, active approach to existence than I do. They go everywhere, I go more in detail. The meeting of these two approaches tend to tire me out.
A few days is okay, but more than a week? Err, no :)
In computer news, I've switched toChromefox Firefox 5. I got too tired of all the weird Javascript errors I was getting, so I decided to do something about it once and for all, and install the browser from scratch... and since I was doing it already, why not pick a more modern browser than my 3.6? It does seem to work well, although since it's now 64-bit, I haven't got Flash to work yet. DO LATER :)
I also managed to compile ppmz2 for Linux (after tweaking it a little). Some other day I might try using it for text classification - telling document authors apart, for instance. The general idea is that compression makes a model, basically what to expect (so it can code the expected in less space at the expense of having to code the unexpected in more, which turns out well if what it thinks is "expected" really is expected). Then, forcing the program to use, say, a model based on my own writing will compress documents made by me better than it will compress documents made by someone else.
Oh, and have anybody else been having trouble adding other DW users to their circles? Oops. Alright, note to everybody who likes https: don't use HTTPS Everywhere or HTTPS Finder to force https for Dreamwidth. It'll silently break stuff by redirecting anything that actually does something (posting, adding users, etc) to a 404 page.
Other than that, what's been happening? Not much. I would tell more about said younglings (particularly their discovery of the piano in this house and subsequent playing again, and again, and again, of the same notes :p), but I'm too sleepy. Perhaps I should just say that I've ordered catnip for my cat, instead! Catnip seeds, that is, so I can have actual catnip.
